Responsibilities:
Semenology: 

  • Perform routine semen analysis and test preparation (according to WHO guidelines).
  • Preparation of fresh and cryopreserved sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), ICSI procedures.
  • Preparation and processing of sample from retrogade ejaculation.
  • Preparation of fresh and cryopreserved sample from TESA for intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure.
  • Cryopreservation and thawing of semen samples.
  • Management of sperm bank.
  • Consultations with patients regarding issues related to semenology.

Embryology:

  • Identification and grading of oocytes, culture of oocytes and insemination (ICSI).
  • Embryo assessment, handling, culture and transfer (uterine and ultrasound), up until day 3 transfer or blastocyst transfer (day 5 or 6).
  • Vitrification  and thawing of embryos.
  • Micromanipulation abilities in ICSI procedure, laser assisted hatching and blastocyst trophectoderm biopsy.
  • Consultations with patients regarding issues related to embryology

General duties:

  • Building up an experience of blastocyst(trophectoderm) biopsy.
  •  Implementing lab regulatory policies, job description for lab personnel and lab performance evaluation.
  •  Responsible for training and follow up evaluation of trainee embryologists.
  • Developing and implementing of new projects.
  • Statistical analysis of monthly and annually results.
  • Laboratory and equipment maintenance including routine cleaning, washing, sterilizing, ordering supplies and waste disposal.
  • Ensuring the day-to-day running of the laboratory is in accordance with quality assurance guidelines, including purchasing, inventory, cataloguing, maintenance and use of equipments.
  • Maintenance of liquid nitrogen dewars and supplies.
  • Upkeep of up-to-date service records (including baby syntery ) and proper filing of user manual.
  • To train, develop, and manage the personnel.
  • To conduct patient educational sessions to help patients to understand issues pertaining to fertility and reproduction.
