The Role

An exciting opportunity to join the nursing team at Wessex Fertility. The post-holder will be one of a group of specialist practitioners working within the Assisted Conception Team. They will be required to work both in the main clinic in Southampton and in our satellite units. Wessex Fertility offer treatments including Ovulation Induction, Intra-Uterine Insemination, In Vitro Fertilisation, Egg Donation and Surrogacy. There will be an opportunity to learn new skills including abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound, intra-uterine insemination and endometrial scratch.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and implementing excellent quality care to meet the individual needs of patients and their partners.
  • Involved in the efficient day to day running of the assisted conception clinic working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To assist in the management, and support of sub fertile couples before, during and after treatment cycles.
  • Participate as part of the theatre team for sedated and non-sedated procedures.
  • Prepare patients for sedated procedures including IV cannulation, and to recover and discharge patients following sedated procedures.
  • Perform venepuncture, informing patients of their test results and updating treatment plans
  • Plan and co-ordinate treatment cycles, ensuring that informed consent is given and the appropriate clinic and Human Fertilisation Embryology Authority consent forms are completed for the treatment cycle.
  • To explain the individualised treatment plan including the potential side effects of the drug treatment and demonstration of self-administered injection technique.
  • To demonstrate excellent communication skills, providing information and support to enable couples to make informed choices regarding their treatment and to answer their questions and concerns.
  • To support patients and families face to face, via video communication and by telephone. 
  • To ensure correct medicine management protocols, including controlled drugs, are adhered to.

Qualifications and experience

  • 1st level registration with NMC (Nurse or Midwife)
  • A genuine interest in the speciality and ideally experience within Fertility
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting/women’s health area
  • Experience in managing nurse-led practice
  • Knowledge of change management
  • Understanding of clinical governance and audit issues
  • Experience in managing nurse-led practice
  • Ultrasound scanning skills preferable but not essential

Location: Wessex Fertility, Southampton 

Salary: £28,000 - £32,000
