MSc in Human Clinical Embryology & Assisted Conception with Artificial Intelligence
Data science and AI is a fast-growing area found in many medical fields, including Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Technological advancements in this area are already present on the market. They are used in IVF labs and in clinical practice. This is revolutionising the way medically assisted reproduction intervention works.
Recent research highlights the emergence of a new professional role: the computational embryologist. More professionals need training in applying data analysis/AI technologies to reproductive medicine.
This master's course gives you a robust education in embryology, andrology, and ART. It looks at all this from a clinical, research, and laboratory perspective.
You’ll also learn about the field of data analysis and AI, and how it applies to reproductive medicine. The course combines both areas to give you the skills needed to future proof your career.
Most of the teaching takes place on-site within a large working National Health Service (NHS) hospital. You'll get access to clinics in a NHS Assisted Conception Unit and ART theatre sessions.
This means you can follow real patients through their fertility journey. You'll also shadow experienced embryologists in the lab. This helps you deliver the most advanced medical care to patients with infertility.
You'll be taught by a mix of experienced embryologists, andrologists, scientists, and clinicians. This gives you the well-rounded knowledge and skills needed to enter a career in ART. This could be in either a clinical or research setting.
The AI teaching takes place on the main University of Dundee campus. It is provided by the School of Science and Engineering. They ranked in the UK top five for Computing in the Guardian University Guide 2025.
The course benefits from connections with industry, such as Vitrolife and CooperSurgical. We have an Industry Advisory Board who inform the curriculum. It consists of top international leaders who advise on innovation in ART. This will provide you with work-related contacts and exposure.

Entry Requirements
A UK Upper Second-class Honours degree (2:1) OR a UK Medical degree or equivalent (for a full list of alternatives, please see our website linked below). Your degree should be in medicine, biological science, biochemical science, biomedical science, physical science, midwifery, nursing, chemical science, or psychology.
