Lead Fertility Nurse (or Midwife) Specialist

37.5 hours per week

Are you an experienced Fertility Nurse or Midwife looking for the next step in your career?

Do you have experience of leading and managing a clinical team?

Then this role may be for you…

This new service has been established in response to the rising costs of assisted conception treatment both to patients treated privately and due to the very limited NHS funded provision. It’s an exciting time to join us at this early stage of our service as you will get an opportunity to help shape and design the service before it starts. BPAS Fertility consists of a hub unit in London where the embryology and andrology labs are located and two satellite units outside of London where consultations, ultrasound scans and cycle management are carried out.

In the hub, a team of Nurses, Midwives, Doctors, Embryologists, Administrators and a Counsellor collaboratively provide not-for-profit, patient-centered, evidence-based fertility treatments including IVF, ICSI, frozen embryo cycles, fertility preservation and intra uterine inseminations for a whole range of patients.

As the Lead Fertility Nurse Specialist (or Midwife) you will manage the clinical setting providing fertility treatments to patients in a supportive manner. You will provide expert advice, training, and supervising in all aspects of fertility treatment, ensuring regular audit and competency of fertility Nurses, Doctors and Healthcare Assistants to deliver high quality care to patients.

About You
We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse or Midwife with skills in ultrasound scanning, consultations, and fertility drugs administration. Egg collection and embryo transfer training will be provided if the successful candidate does not have these skills yet. We are looking for someone who has exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, who is non-judgmental, remains professional and is friendly at all times.

We also require:

  • Nursing experience in all areas of assisted conception.
  • Experience of nurse admissions and discharges.
  • Knowledge of fertility treatment, HFEA code of practice and physiology of human reproduction.
  • Experience of training and supervision of staff.
  • Adhering to SOPs and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out initial consultations with prospective fertility patients, including full medical history.
  • Perform ultrasound scans on women to assess ovarian reserve, endometrial thickness, follicular growth, and viable pregnancy.
  • Explain procedures, answer queries, check, and complete documentation with patients throughout their care pathway.
  • Complete patient case notes accurately and in full, provide accurate, current, comprehensive, and concise information concerning the patient.
  • Perform egg collections under conscious sedation, embryo transfers under ultrasound guidance and perform intra-uterine inseminations after a period of training as required.
  • Administer conscious sedation medication and monitor patients.
