The British Fertility Society (BFS), an organisation representing professionals with an interest in reproductive medicine, has announced that it will be sending a questionnaire to all its members concerning the future of the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority).

This is in response to the Arm's Length Bodies review by the Department of Health (DH) where both the HFEA and the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) were put forward as organisations that were ripe for abolishment.

The questionnaire asks BFS members for their thoughts on whether there should be a single body or multiple organisations involved in the regulation of fertility treatment, research and data collection; whether the current regulations are ok or would benefit from a review; as well as the key issue of whether the data collected from each fertility centre is too detailed, is adequate or needs to be more in depth; along with any other comments its members may have on fertility regulation in the UK.

The BFS hopes to publish the findings in due course.
